CHALLENGE
Kia America needed to streamline the number of consumer facing printed manuals and instruction tags inserted into their vehicles. Specifically, there were 5 documents being included with each vehicle, costing them $7.25/ vehicle. We were challenged to reduce the number of consumer guides per vehicle while maintaining the integrity of the pertinent information.
SOLUTION
Sir Speedy Whittier was asked to review all of the content and develop a strategy to reduce the number of printed items. Our team of graphic designers and content editors conducted a thorough review of all items, and the information contained within them. In collaboration with the key client stakeholders, we designed a small folio with a 12 page insert stitched into the center. In addition, the folio was created with a front and back pocket which held 2 Consumer Information booklets. Sir Speedy Whittier created 14 vehicle specific versions of the folio to accommodate the various attributes of each vehicle model. To facilitate the completely revamped piece, we reimagined the production process to provide a Just In Time (JIT) time to market.
RESULT
The solution resulted in a reduction of $4.00/vehicle, saving Kia America $3,200,000 annually while enhancing the customer experience.
Key Results:
- Reduction in design and production time allows the client more time for content development
- 40% reduction in warehousing storage costs
- Versioning provides more vehicle specific content
- Increased CSI scores due to a more valued customer experience
